Just tie a small loop in the shoelace, work it through the side or top of the car door, and use the loop to pull up the lock. Not only will your car door unlock, but you will feel like MacGyver for pulling off the move!

The Coat Hanger Method– This tried-and-true favorite works with both pull-up locks and horizontal locks. All you need is a wire coat hanger, which you untwist and work through the side of the door. Use the hanger hook to either pull up on the lock or push the horizontal locking mechanism into the unlocked position. It takes a lot of patience but ultimately can pay off!

The Rod and Screwdriver Method– This one may not be for first-timers, as it can cause body damage to your car door if you are not careful. Use the screwdriver to pry open the top of the locked car door, and then insert a long rod through the gap. Use the rod to disengage the car door lock.
